In this list, we will share some of our recommended products, materials, and bathroom necessities that are suitable for a bathroom while also being aesthetically pleasing!
1. Flooring
Ceramic floor tile: A type of tile typically made from red or white clay. It comes in a large variety of colors and designs (even wood!)
Benefits: Waterproof, scratch resistant, stain proof, and easy to clean!
Versatile for floors, walls, showers, and backsplashes.
Keep in mind: Due to its hard surface, it’s not recommended for those with bone and joint conditions. Ceramic floor tiles are best installed by a professional to make the proper cuts and measurements for any bathroom size.
Smartcore Pro: Luxury vinyl plank flooring meant for demanding environments such as bathrooms. It’s 100% waterproof and meant to mimic the look of wood!
Benefits: 100% waterproof (no swelling, cracking, or peeling when wet), commercial-grade durability, installed directly over existing hard surface floors, comes in a variety of wood-type styles, beautiful and functional, and easy to install.
Keep in mind: Investment in this flooring is higher than others but well worth the price!
2. Paint
Harmony® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint – Sherwin-Williams (semi-gloss finish): “Zero-VOC paint helps improve indoor air quality with Formaldehyde Reducing Technology”
Benefits: Contributes to cleaner indoor air quality, low chemical emissions paint, contains agents that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the paint surface, and available in a variety of colors.
Keep in mind: We will always recommend a semi-gloss finish for bathrooms no matter what brand of paint you choose. The semi-gloss finish will hold up better to the moisture in your bathroom and it is less likely for mold to grow. Plus, paint with a semi-gloss finish is easier to clean and can be used for your bathroom’s ceiling.
3. Ventilation Fan
The Home Netwerks™ 110 CFM ventilation fan with Bluetooth Speakers and LED lights: Great if you enjoy listening to music while showering, bathing, or just getting ready for the day while also having the ability to change the lighting in your bathroom based on how you’re feeling!
Benefits: Stream your favorite music via Bluetooth to the fan speakers, very quiet, variety of light tones (LED white light, soothing amber night light, and soft blue night light), and includes an easy-to-use wall switch.
Keep in mind: You might not want to leave your bathroom!
4. Lighting
Lighting is by far one of the most important decisions for your bathroom as we mentioned in our previous blog post. There are so many options when it comes to fixtures and color tones of the light itself. For a small to average size bathroom, we always advise our customers to choose more of a white tone for the main source of light rather than a warm tone so your bathroom looks bigger and skin tones look natural in the mirror. For bigger bathrooms, such as a master bath, you can always have the main light source for functionality along with separate warm lighting for those days you just need to unwind.
Keep in mind: Choosing a bathroom fixture based on the size of your bathroom is a smart idea, but also think about the style you would like your bathroom to have (modern, industrial, classic…etc or choose a transitional option if you enjoy changing up your style!)
5. Vanities
A vanity is one of the main focuses in a bathroom. Sometimes just updating a vanity can make a world of a difference to a bathroom; especially for a half bath! Just like choosing a lighting fixture, keep in mind the size of the bathroom when choosing a vanity. Also, think of the function and style you want the vanity to have in your bathroom. Some people may need more counter space while others just need a simple vanity with no drawers or counter space.
Keep in mind: You’ll want to choose a faucet that fits the vanity you want. Also, we recommend matching the material of the faucet to the light fixture you choose!
Some final thoughts:
- A high-quality flooring option will last longer and be easier to maintain.
- For small bathrooms, keep the colors light when choosing materials and paint colors in order to give the appearance of a larger bathroom.
- Choosing a semi-gloss paint finish is best to avoid water streaks and mold.
- Ventilation fans don’t have to just be functional!
When in doubt, give us a call and we would be happy to come out and discuss all the possibilities for your perfect bathroom remodel!
